I am Donnell Teeples, from Michigan, and I’ve always loved the outdoors. There’s something special about heading out early in the morning and watching the forest come alive. There’s so much to notice if you slow down - squirrels chasing each other through the trees, crashing around like that dream buck trailing a hot doe. It’s the kind of sound that makes you smile and reminds you why you’re there.
Some of my best memories are spending time with my family: hunting, walking the woods, gathering firewood, and simply enjoying the fresh air. Every year, I hunted opening day - first with my dad, then my brother, and later my niece and nephew. It became a tradition, one we always looked forward to. Life is changing now, and I’m not sure we’ll always be able to continue it the same way, but I’ll definitely try.
In July of 2023, I was lucky enough to go on a once-in-a-lifetime African hunt with my dad, my niece, and my sister. It was an absolute joy. We made incredible memories and even gained some new friends along the way. Seeing the younger generation take an interest in the outdoors truly warms my soul.
