Tamara Finley, Alaska

My name is Tamara Finley, I grew up in the Pacific Northwest of Washington. I have been married for 30 years (Sept.) and am the mother to three amazing women and nana to seven feral grandchildren.

In 2013 our family moved to Alaska for work and to take our way of life to the next level.  We use scouting the outdoors for game and just sitting on the bank fishing as a pass time (date night).  Being in God’s great creation, helps clear our mind's, rest our soul and brings peace while being one with nature.

In Washington, my husband was a Hunter Education Instructor and I would assist when needed.   We strongly believe in the education of gun safety and hunting & fishing conservation to all that are looking to enjoy the outdoors and live this way of life.

I have always been drawn to the outdoors as I grew up on a cattle ranch along with fishing and hunting when time would allow.   My husband also grew up hunting, so it has been a second nature to our family.

We raised our daughters to hunt and fish along with learning to live off the land as much as possible; along with how to care and prepare what they harvest from land or river/lake/sea.

Now as our children are adults and have families of their own it is a blessing to see them and their husband's take those traditional learnings and continue the life.  Currently, we are slowing starting the next generation (our grandkids) with these lessons.

The photo submitted here is from a bear hunt with my husband in 2023.  I have always been a fan of bears since I was a little girl.  I think bears are one of the most majestic land animals and I have always wanted to harvest a big black bear.  I have spent numerous years hunting for the “one” and have chosen to pass on many.

This specific night, we were out deer hunting and we just happened to be in the right spot at the right time to meet up with this boar. This is my first black bear and I shot him with a 280 Ai at 150 yds.   He squared at 7’3” with an official Boone and Crocket score measuring 20 4/16”  skull.

To me the best part of being in the outdoors fishing, hunting or just out hiking and scouting, is the memories you make with your friends and family along with the lessons learned and natures beautiful scenery.

We always look forward to and enjoy meeting new “friends” while being in the

outdoors.
