My name is Kendra Holt, and my husband Thomas and I are just good old country folks who love spending every chance we get outdoors. At our house, it’s always a “season”! From turkey, deer, pheasant, duck, and quail hunting to fishing, camping, hiking, boating, and 3-D archery, if it’s outdoors, we’re in.

One of the greatest joys in life has been sharing our way of life with our 7 children and now our 6 grandchildren. Trout fishing has become one of our family’s favorite traditions, and over the years we’ve introduced countless kids to the fun of casting a line and reeling in their first fish. Nothing makes us happier than giving the next generation a chance to experience the outdoors.

A Special Turkey Hunt

The photo I chose for this contest means the world to me. It captures my first compound bow harvest of a turkey. While I’ve taken several turkeys with a shotgun, this one stands out as my only bow harvest, and that makes it incredibly special.

Turkey hunting is always a new adventure. Listening to the gobbles, watching them strut, and feeling your heart race as they close the distance, it’s an experience that never gets old. What made this hunt even more memorable was that my husband and I shared it together, as we always save opening day for “us.”

Adventures Still Ahead

Even after 40+ years of hunting, fishing, and archery, I still have plenty of adventures on my list. I’d love to go on a Texas or Oklahoma hog hunt, try my hand at shark fishing in the ocean, and ultimately, I dream of achieving a Turkey Grand Slam .

Ladies in the Outdoors

When I first got involved in hunting, fishing, and 3-D archery decades ago, it wasn’t common to see women in the field. More often than not, I was the only woman in the fishing boat or at hunting camp. Today, I’m proud to see how far we’ve come.
