My name is Shawn Hawke, and I’m proud to call Franklin, PA, my home. My greatest joy in life is my loving husband, Dennis, and my two incredible sons, Garrett and Ethan. I’m a 4th-grade math teacher at Central Elementary School, where I’m passionate about inspiring young minds. Outside the classroom, I’m an archery instructor for Shoot Like a Girl, sharing my love for the sport with others. Hunting is another passion of mine; I look forward to deer season in the fall and turkey season in the spring.
This photo marks a moment I’ll cherish forever: my first archery buck. After four years of archery hunting, this harvest is a culmination of countless hours of practice, patience, and learning. While I’ve successfully harvested several does over the years, this buck represents a milestone in my journey.
This particular evening couldn’t have been more perfect—one of those rare moments when everything falls into place. I was in my son Ethan's tree stand, the wind working flawlessly in my favor. The woods had been quiet all evening, not a single tail in sight—until sunset when he came out of nowhere. I drew back on him and made the perfect shot!
What makes this day even more special is that I got to share it with my dad and my husband, who have supported me throughout my hunting journey. My husband and I will always treasure the fact that he harvested a buck on the very same evening. It’s a memory we’ll talk about for years, reliving every detail.
This particular hunt was so much more than a harvest to me; it was about family, shared experiences, and the bond we all have through our love of the outdoors. I’m so grateful to have celebrated this milestone with the two most important men in my life.
Archery hunting has taught me so much -about persistence, respect for wildlife, and the beauty of the outdoors. My ultimate goal is to harvest a turkey with my bow. My dream is to hunt elk or mule deer in Montana. Here’s to the thrill of the hunt, the gratitude for the harvest, and the memories we create along the way.
